From Grandfather's Arm: Is Grandfather no longer afraid to show his tattoo? Will he wear short sleeves now? How many people are in America with Tattoos.
From Hidden Children: Where in the States did these hidden children usually go? Did family members get to stay together (while hidden)? If they didn't come to America, where did they go? Did they ever share their stories with their children/grandchildren? Do they still know the people they hid with?
TO MAEVE: dysentery is a sickness which is basically diarrhea but when it goes untreated you can dehydrate very quickly and you will soon die. Very sad and gruesome.
@Madison: I'm sure some of them didn't know the full extent of what was happening to the Jews. However, they probably at least knew they were "going away" to Concentration Camps. Perhaps they didn't know what happened at these camps.
@Annie: Maybe they wanted to let them get over there. Not all German's wanted to be killing Jewish people. Some of them purposely let the Jewish children bring food.
Brantley- Yes!they loved Hitler at first. He was charismatic and a good speaker. But as time progressed they were more brainwashed by Hitler. But they didn't like him in the end.
Yes, Caroline, you are probably correct. The concentration camps were away from civilization, and it wasn't like people were hanging out there or anything.
Yes, but Ghettos could be considered concentration camps to an extent. Some Ghettos were extremely bad such as the Warsaw Ghetto. So one could say that there were some concentration camps the Germans had in their back yards.
True, but in Warsaw wasn't there a factory they could work at? if they were lucky? Besides, the Germans couldn't see over the walls! Unless they did some major climbing.
Does the author of this book have any connection to the teens that he describes in this book? Why did he choose these children in particular? What was his connection to the Holocaust in general?
Three Questions I still have after reading "Rescuers Defying The Nazis": 1.How could Adolf Hitler give himself the power to control different events and things within Germany?
2.Why did Presden join the Danish Brigade in Sweden?
3.Why didn't Non-Jews just stand up for what they believed in?
1) Expect for in the early 1800's, why were the Jews always picked on? What made them so much different than the people of other religions? 2) Why did President Paul von Hindenburg listen and go along with Hitlers terrible ideas?
